Located in a quiet area close to the city centre and the neighbourhood park, Camponovo took the opportunity of making this building exclusively residential, in line with his idea of bringing families back to live in the centre of Lugano. The project provides all the apartments with large sheltered terraces that can be furnished and used throughout the year. These “hanging gardens” can be completed with plants, sculptures, a play of lights etc. making them an actual extension of the living area. They provide the possibility of enjoying an inside-outside space which is unusual in buildings in the city centre. Thus residents can live outdoors without leaving the apartment. The building in pale concrete is a compact seven-storey block, with a very open south façade that has terraces-cum-gardens on all floors There is a large rooftop garden affording a magnificent panorama of the lake and the Lugano skyline. Moreover, this becomes an actual “green fifth façade” for the people living on the hill. The ground floor, which is almost completely open to the garden, is designed to be most welcoming. As well as the main entrance there is also a public area that can be used for group gatherings. Works of art such as sculptures and installations can be displayed in the large spaces under the portico forthe benefit of the residents and the whole neighbourhood.
