The client asked the architect to design an annex to his home, built several decades earlier, to solve problems relating to the living room: insufficient natural light and a partial view of the lake that stretches from Morcote as far as Italy. The existing building did not respect the architect’s canons, and after much doubt and reflection he presented a solution for an annex that would stand apart from the main body of the house in architectonic terms and in the use of materials. The design of the “pavilion” is characterized by curved glass walls and a lightweight glass-and-steel structure that maximizes the view and the light that were obstructed by the existing spaces. For the load-bearing structures and the slender, overhanging roof the architect used shiny reflecting stainless steel which, by creating a play of reflections of the surrounding landscape, almost annuls the new structure and defines its independence.
