There was a particularly interesting challenge associated with the competition for the design of the new headquarters of the Casale Group, world leader in implementation of projects for plants producing ingredients for agricultural fertilizers: to offer quality work sites encouraging the intellectual work, concentration and creativity of a hundred chemical and mechanical engineers intent on staying in the forefront of the world market. The presence of attractive vegetation on the grounds led the architect to incorporate that into the overall framework of the plan. Thus, green penetrates into the building in a vast central steel and glass patio that ingeniously fulfils the criteria of the competition. In addition to its lush plants, the patio has a water element and a powerful sculpture by Igor Mitoraj. The possibility of having luminous work spaces, contact with nature on the outside, and a play of transparencies and reflections are all themes clearly expressed, cited and realized here. Workplaces on several different floors are exposed to view, which means that colleagues can see each other in their daily work, thereby reinforcing their identification with the company. The large volume of the central patio also serves as an actual “lung” that contributes to the building’s energy balance. Of special note are the emergency stairs visible in the background of the atrium which become a distinctive architectural element in their own right. The values of the Casale Group are expressed by the technological materials so meticulously employed in the construction. Upon entering, one immediately feels immersed in an atmosphere that inspires trust. All in all, the courtyard fascinates visitors and gratifies workers. The expression of the architecture and the choice of materials are the agents of a quest for evergreater quality of life in the workplace and a respectful relationship with nature.
