Over the years Giampiero Camponovo’s desire to explore new forms of expression has grown: above all, compared to his first villas, he has tried increasingly to create buildings that inter- pret more fully the cornerstones of his vision of architecture: light, transparency, views and a close relationship between interior and exterior have become a powerful part of the architec- tonic language of these constructions, allowing them to blend well with the landscape around. The surrounding environment thus becomes a fundamental element in the plan, where spaces dilate, and the materials and colours are chosen with the declared intent of highlighting the luminosity and transparency of the building, thanks to the use of large glass surfaces. In his plans for detached villas, therefore, there is a great focus on the definition of planning, technical and formal criteria that aim to produce buildings capable of satisfying the needs of the future occupants, but also of fulfilling functional requirements of a more lasting nature. The plans are thus marked by a particular attention to detail and a focus on the organization of interior spaces. Expectations, family structure and the way to conceive “living” and “cohabiting” turn into important themes for a correct planning. Especially in the last twenty years, buildings also need to assure near-zero energy consumption; this concept has developed as a result of a growing increase in energy requirements brought about by the use of heating and cooling systems. Taking into account the question of energy right from the preliminary studies and seeking solutions for the intelligent use of resources, most of which are non-renewable, are duties of the architect towards society.
